The Japan Overseas Enterprises Association (JOEA) is a non-profit general incorporated association with about 270 members, primarily Japanese companies, as well as other Japanese associations and entities.
JOEA was established in 1974. At that time, it was the dawn of foreign investment rushing by Japanese companies. Some anti-Japan activities against Japanese business investment, however, occurred in some southeast Asian countries. Considering such situation, Japanese government and several economic and business organizations supported the establishment of JOEA for the purpose of enabling Japanese companies to smoothly and healthy operate their overseas business.
Since then, the Japanese companies’ overseas business operation has been expanded and developed around the world. The global business environment has also been changing variously. The current JOEA’s mission is to conduct to help and support their member companies’ global business operation at the following three domains.
JOEA provides member companies with valuable information, platform, networking opportunity and services through seminars, lectures, research groups and publications. These activities include:
JOEA holds totally over 100 events of seminars, lectures and research groups a year. There are 8 research groups, and around 150 member companies join some group. The followings are themes for events.
JOEA publishes various guidebooks for overseas business travelers and resident overseas employees and issues a monthly magazine. JOEA also carries out several biannual surveys and discloses them to the public.
Other JOEA’s activities are to regularly provides their policy proposals to the government, to offer the deployment of experienced advisors of overseas security and risk management, and to invite Japanese speech contest winners in ASEAN countries to Japan. These activities include:

JOEA offers the deployment of experienced advisors of overseas security and risk management. As consultants, they support and advice to construct the guideline and rules of overseas security and risk management and provide the lecture or seminar of it for requested companies.
JOEA has held the event of inviting Japanese speech contest winners in ASEA countries every year since 1986. During they stay in Japan several days, they enjoy Japanese culture, visit Japanese company and present their Japanese speech. The purpose of the event is to contribute to the good relationship between Japan and ASEAN countries. Totally about 400 people were invited to Japan. Some of them became Japanese language teachers in their countries, and some of them work for Japanese companies.
